Jun Shan Dao, Yue Yang

Corn, hay, tender mouth feel with lingering crisp sweetness. This bud-only yellow tea is state-owned and a modern tribute tea.

Jun Shan Yin Zhen, a yellow tea, is China’s rarest tea.  While the knock-off versions are plenty, there’s actually only one tea maker on the tiny Jun Shan Island and the estate is state-owned.  Never privatized from dynasty time to the republic era, this bona fide modern tribute tea usually goes directly to the government and is reserved to treat visiting diplomats.

Like all historically famous teas of China, the making of Jun Shan Yin Zhen is meticulous.  Every bud is hand sorted and even the smallest leafy part is picked out to not compromise quality.  These small leaves that is the first peeling of a bud, and would be regarded as high quality leaves in other categories of teas, are considered inferior and sells for a fraction.
